Usually, friends mean well, but sometimes their suggestions seem more like a demand. Too much advice only adds to the stress you’re already feeling.

If you’re facing an unexpected pregnancy, you need the support of others during this difficult time. If your friends only add pressure, schedule a free and confidential appointment at Mosaic Health.

Our caring client advocates will listen and help you make an informed choice. Only you can decide how to handle your pregnancy.

What Are My Choices?

You have three options: have an abortion, make an adoption plan, or choose to parent. Make sure you look at all three carefully. This is your future and your choice.

Have an Abortion

Many times, when a woman becomes unexpectedly pregnant, she considers an abortion her only choice. Pressure from her partner, her parents’ disappointment, or fear of judgment can lead to a quick decision.

Although you may have heard about abortion procedures like the abortion pill method, do you really know how it works? The abortion pill has several limitations and can be dangerous for both your physical and mental health.

For instance, the FDA approves the use of these abortion drugs through 10 weeks of pregnancy only. The further along you are, the less effective the drugs are. The side effects can include heavy bleeding with blood clots, and some women have reported extreme pain after taking the second drug, misoprostol.

Physical risks include heavy and prolonged bleeding or even an incomplete abortion. Some women also report adverse emotional effects such as grief, a sense of loss, anxiety, and depression.

Although we do not perform or refer for abortion, we can give you factual information about abortion procedures and potential risks without judgment or pressure.

Make an Adoption Plan

If you’re not ready to have an abortion, but also don’t feel prepared to parent, you may want to look at making an adoption plan. Today’s adoption process is very different from a few decades ago.

Now, the expectant mother or birth mother makes all of the decisions. You select the couple who will raise your child, creating the future you want them to have.

You pay nothing for adoption services. Your medical and legal expenses are covered, and as state law allows, you can even receive pregnancy-related expenses.

By choosing an open or semi-open adoption plan, you can communicate with your child and their adoptive family after finalization.

Placing your child for adoption is a challenging choice, but adoption agencies provide thorough counseling throughout the entire process and beyond. Although we cannot place your child for adoption, we can provide referrals to professional, licensed adoption agencies in our area.

Choosing to Parent

Just because your pregnancy was unexpected doesn’t mean it’s impossible to parent. Parenting does require a great deal of discipline, but the rewards are tremendous.

At Mosaic Health, we offer a parenting program for first-time parents. Our program, First Steps,  covers pregnancy, childbirth, and parenting. Those who complete all four First Steps classes receive new and free baby items valued at approximately $450.

Registered nurses and trained volunteers provide incredible instruction on prenatal care, labor and delivery techniques, and parenting tips.

We will be with you throughout the entire process and beyond.
